All eyes at the moment are focusing on Le Tour De France which visited Yorkshire for it`s Grande Depart and members of the club were on hand in the towns and villages of Yorkshire to take in the excitement of the tours caravan and the worlds top cyclists racing through the stages. With another two weeks of racing still ahead this years tour has seen some big names crash out early on claiming Mark Cavendish (OPQS), the Manx Missile surely poised to claim more stage victories before crashing out heavily. Chris Froome (Sky) defending Tour champion retiring with injuries after crashing on the Pave. At the end of the month the Commenwealth Games begin in Glasgow with some club members and their families selected as Games Volunteers on hand to assist at sporting venues throughout the Games.
Closer to home the club have been racing hard over the last few weeks, last Wednesday night was Round 2 of The Gordon Rout Memorial and a new course. Starting behind Selkirk Rugby Club the race goes up Yarrow Valley before turning of at Generals Bridge, then right to Ettrickbridge before climbing up the Bottom Swire and finishing at the summit high above the Yarrow and Ettrick Valleys below. A deserved race win for Neil Shepherd leading his elders up the climbs winning with a time of 28 min 27 sec second rider Alistair Meikle 29 min 42 sec who was chased all the way by Ross Laidlaw finishing 2 seconds behind Alistair in 29 min 44 sec.
